Frequently Asked Questions About Gentle Touch Teeth Whitening
Why is Sigma Gentle Touch so much cheaper than tooth whitening a dentist’s office?
Recently there was clarification from the FDA that this is “cosmetic” and not a “dental process”. This allows aestheticians to offer what was classified as a “dental process” at a more affordable price. All staff has been trained by Sigmacon Pharmaceuticals Corp. to deliver this product as it would be provided from dentist.
What’s in the whitening gel?
It is the same solution that is used by dentists. It’s a solution of Glycerin (preservative) and Carbamide Peroxide. Carbamide Peroxide is a derivative of Hydrogen Peroxide. Glycerin is the ingredient that helps keep the Carbamide active for an extended period of time.
What is Glycerin?
Glycerin is a preservative that helps keep the Carbamide Peroxide active for a longer period of time. This allows the product to have an extended shelf life. Glycerin is used in many products including, various brands of toothpaste, lotion and deodorant. It does cause dryness as it removes some of the moisture in your teeth, which can cause some sensitivity.
Will it hurt my customer’s teeth?
No. Carbamide Peroxide penetrates the pores of the teeth and removes the stains that have been accumulated over the years. Whitening has been available for over a hundred years; it is approved by the FDA, and has been proven to be completely safe and effective.
I’ve heard that it causes some of sensitivity?
The process can cause sensitivity but usually it will dissipate in a day or two. If your customer already has sensitive teeth, we suggest using a tooth paste for sensitive teeth like Sensodyne. The fluoride and potassium nitrate will help eliminate the sensitivity by clogging the pores. It does slow down the process slightly, but you will still get great results. However, the way we teach you to use the system, eliminates a lot of problems associated with the sensitivity.
Will it lighten crown, bridges, or fillings?
No. The Gel can only whiten real tooth surfaces.
What about the discoloration of a root canal?
Unfortunately a discolouration caused by a root canal won’t be lightened. There are few things you can do for that. Some options might include internal bleaching, a veneer or a crown.
Will dental insurance cover this?
Regrettably, no. Insurance will not cover any cosmetic whiting procedure.
What if my customers have a tooth or teeth that are painful?
They should go get it checked out by there local dentist before whitening to make sure it is safe.
What if my customers are in the middle of a root canal?
Wait until they are done.
What if my customers have a temporary on for a permanent crown?
Wait until they are done. The alginate will pop the temporary off.
I heard this procedure will eat away the teeth.
It will not eat away the teeth. People who abuse the system might develop tooth sensitivity, but this will subside. Wearing it for 24 to 48 consecutive hours could cause sensitivity.
Is there an age requirement?
A customer needs to be at least 16 years of age and have parental consent.
Why are you able to do this without being a dentist?
Due to recent legislation and FDA redefining this procedure this can be done without a dental license. We don’t allow our practitioners fingers to go inside a customer’s mouth. The practitioner can only assist with making impressions. This has opened the door to a larger group of consumers who in the past may not have been able to afford this service.
Is it a permanent process?
It is a permanent process as long as the consumer does not drink coffee or tea or smoke. If they do, it does require a touch up every 4-6 months. Wearing the trays once every two to three weeks is considered good maintenance.
